There is ageneral consensus
that Democracy is the best system of government in today's
world. Out of 192 countries in the countries in the United
Nations, about 119 countries have opted for democratic system
of governance . Consequently, whether it is a Parliamentary
or Presidential system, the House of People's representatives,
whatever be its name, has become the legitimate and most
powerful institution to reflect and articulate the people's
aspirations and desires. It will not be wrong to say that
more than twenty five thousand elected representatives all
over the world including six thousand Members (MLAs/MPs/MLCs
taken together) from India, decide the destiny of the entire
humanity. Therefore, for the smooth functioning of the country,
the legislature has a task cut out for it. In that context
one can say that the legislature is the "Living laboratory"
of democracy.
Despite many setback, democracy
has been alive and kicking in India for the past six decades.
It is visible in its full glory in the Vidhan Sabhas of
States and Lok Sabha at the Centre, which is keeping a watchful
eye on the Central and State Goverments. Frictions and clashes
do occur at times between the different organs of democracy
on certain issues, but a way out is sought to be found sson.
The sound system of checks and balance prevents such minor
clashes snowball into major constitutional crises.

citizens of this country it is our duty to keep abreast
